National Self-Winding Clock Co
Champaign, Ill &
Bristol, Conn.

The dial and the instruction sheet on the back door of this clock say Manufactured By National Self-Winding Clock Co., Champaign, Ill but on the movement it says National Self Winding Clock Co. Bristol, Conn. The movement has the patent date of Feb 19,1895 which would be patent # 534,318 by Charles M. Crook of Chicago, Ill. It also has the patent date of July 1, 1901 which is patent # 703,953 also by C. M. Crook of Chicago and further assigned to the National Self Winding Co. of Elgin, Ill. Mr. Charles M. Crook had a considerable number patents for self winding clocks, movements and clock synchronizers dating from 1895 thru 1918. I believe that this movement is Patent # 830473, Sept 4, 1906 by Percy L. Clark of Bristol Conn. and assigned to The National Self-winding Clock Co. of Champaign, Ill.

The power for this movement was supplied by three 1.5 volt batteries to create 4.5 volts DC. The other unusual feature is that it strikes the hours and half hour on a metal gong, which is seldom seem on an early battery clock.
